"Mateo got Baptized! / I Got Bit By A Dog"

"Us at interviews. This is our district minus the Hermanas."
Feb 25, 2019

Mateo (named changed) got baptized from JCP3! He is the kid I gave a blessing to. Elder Albrechtsen and I were the witnesses and it was so awesome. No one from the bishopric showed up to the baptism and our ward mission leader flopped too, so we had two recently returned missionaries from the ward that were given authority over the phone to act as representatives of the bishopric, so that was fun hahah!

We went exploring way out in the boonies of our area again this week, we found a place that was a little more out there with a lot more trees and stuff and it was really cool.

I got bit by a dog for the first time! I can check that off of the list of 3rd world country experiences. Remember when we were all at the cabin in Utah and it was just our family and I was kinda freaked out because we found one of the doors open after leaving or something, then that night when it was all dark and I went downstairs to get something and that dumb cat ran by my leg and I jumped and yelled "FREAK" and then booked it up the stairs?? Ya, it was kinda like that but I was in Argentina and it was a medium sized black dog. He snuck up behind us and got me below my calf. He tried getting Elder Albrechtsen too but we scared it off.

Other than that it was a pretty good week! It rained a little bit so that was fun. I’m really enjoying it here; the work is great and it's fun being with Elder Wallace and Vickery in the same pension.

Sorry this was a short letter, I’ll write in my journal and send a pic next week, thanks fam, love you!

"The Wild West of JCP / The Chapel Was FULL!"

Elders Moe & Albrechtsen
Feb 11, 2019

Hello family!! There is a lot I need to write and I don’t have hardly any time to email so I’m gonna do my weekly letter in my journal.

Last Sunday there was a ward baptism after church, and so there was a family there visiting because they were related to the kid getting baptized.  After the baptism, I saw one of the kids who was there visiting and he looked pretty sadish. I walked by him and said Hi and said I liked his shirt.  Ten minutes later he came up to me and asked if I could talk to him for a second.  So I motioned to Elder A and we went over to talk to him.  He started kinda tearing up and he told me that he thought something was wrong with him because every night he has terrible demonic dreams.  He said he wakes up every night after having a dream and can’t go back to sleep because he feels sick.  He said he hadn’t slept through the night in weeks.  At this point he was crying.  He said he also felt really bad because the missionaries (Elder Simmons) had taught him before and I guess he was kinda rude to them and didn’t want to listen.

I gave him a hug, then offered to give him a blessing.  We went into a classroom with his mom and I gave him a blessing and said that the dreams would not return, and that if he would take the steps toward baptism he would have peace and happiness in his life.

The Elders of Jose C Paz 3 (JCP3) went and visited him later that day. (He lives in their area) He and all his family came to church yesterday.  He said he has never been better with a big smile on his face! He is 13 years old and is getting baptized next week!!

We went to area Blanca again Saturday.  It is the part that is way out in the boonies of our area.  It is so cool out there! There are a ton of Paraguayos; maybe I’m gonna learn a little bit of Guarani (the national language of Paraguay).  It’s like the wild west of JCP.  We saw like a little kid who couldn’t have been older than 8 or 9 riding bareback on a huge horse and he was like herding other horses through the town.  It was crazy.

Yesterday at church it was so cool.  Elder A and I visited a ton of menos activos (less actives) this past week.  We had 10 menos activos and 1 investigator at church yesterday. And JCP3 had like 5 menos activos and 3 investigators at church yesterday.  The capilla (chapel) was FULL!!  It was the coolest thing ever.  We are gonna divide this ward!! Either divide it or make a Sol y Verde rama (branch).  But we’ve got to start baptizing some people if we are gonna do it.

Family, please pray that we will be able to find people who are ready to be baptized and will have desires to gain a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Love you!

"All They Need Is a Visit or an Invitation"

Elder Moe & Albrechtsen
Feb 4, 2019

Yes! I do have a lot more stories being out here in Jose C Paz! It is awesome. Sometimes I just find myself looking around at the surroundings and just thinking, "Wow, I’m on my mission!" hahahaha I love it.

There is a part in our huge area that is super far out where Elder Albrechtsen had never been before. The very end of our area (la rey cucha), and I wanted to go there to check it out. We arrived at Barrio Kishner and there was a big field just full of trash, it was wild.  As we were leaving the area that night, they were burning all of it. It smelt really bad and I’m sure the liberals of the US would have been a little upset because the ozone doesn’t exist here anymore, but it was crazy cool to watch at night.

In this very far out part of our area, every member of the church is inactive. There is not one active member... The first member we found was Alvaro (name changed). He got baptized in 2016 and had gone inactive about 6 months ago. He left with us to visit a few other members who still have strong testimonies but just need a little push to get back to church. The missionaries had not come to this area of JCP for almost 7 or 8 months. We found a family who has a son who is not baptized and the father is not a member, and the mom exclaimed how badly she wants to come back to church and how the happiest moments in her life was when she was an active member in her callings. All she needed was a visit or an invitation to push her to come back. Once they receive the divorcement paper (for the previous spouse) back, they are going to get married and the husband wants to get baptized as well.

We are reading the BOM in two transfers!!! It is awesome! We started this transfer and we are gonna finish in April I think. I absolutely love it. The Book of Mormon is so fun to read, I have never loved it more in my life.

I have more stories to send next week, sorry I ran out of time today. I had a few guys from the CCM write me and I wanted to wright them back.

Love you family
